Football Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Defensive Affair
In a defensive struggle this weekend, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close win over the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Defensive Performance Wins Game
Despite registering nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with just over five minutes remaining.
Record Struggles for Jets Offense
Despite their horrendous performance, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to score a potential victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion instead of sending out specialist Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with negative ten passing yards, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," Glenn commented following the game.
