Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: There should be a category for puzzle games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
- A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world and have been for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
